LUG Has Big Ambitions

AirCargo Week - 9th November 2009

LUG AIRCARGO handling has seen a welcome upturn in its business at Franfurt, one of the two German gateways - theother being Munich - at which it maintains a presence.

According to the handler's Managing Director, Wolfgant Kotte: "As a result of the overall economic downturn, our business was slow until August 2009. The first signs of recovery appeared in September, while October was almost back to normal as per expectations at this time of year".

Part of the upturn has been due to the repositioning by 'key customer' Korean Air of two of its B747 freighters from Munich to Frankfurt during August.

Then, in September, Cargolux became a new client, while Thai Airways added two weekly B747F flights to its passenger services.

But LUG is not resting on its laurels. Korre is planning to extend its warehouse space by 12,000m and its office space by 5,000m, both by the Spring of next year.

A parking area for 360 vehicles will also complement the LUG complex in Cargo City Sud, he said. The realisation of this project is expected to take 12-15 months.

Improvements to the company's IT systems are also be be made with the help of its partner, Hermes.
