Freight Asia Report - Payload Asia March 2006
Maglev takes delegates to PACTL
On the last day of Air Freight Asia 2006, more
than 60 delegates paid a site visit to the
Shanghai Pudong International Cargo Terminal Co
Ltd., or PACTL. To get to Pudong, the group
boarded the high-speed Maglev train, which took
them at a speed of 436 kilometres per hour in
just over 4 minutes to Pudong airport train
station.
The Sino-German joint venture cargo handling
company, which is one of the two cargo handling
operators at Pudong Airport, is owned by the
Shanghai Airport Group (51 percent), Lufthansa
Cargo (29 percent) and JHJ International
Forwarding (21 percent).
The visitors were welcomed by deputy general
manager Bettina Ganghofer, who briefed the
delegates on the existing facilities and future
developments.
She said that apart from further optimising the
existing facilities, PACTL is planning the
construction of a second cargo handling terminal
to meet future demand.
The
group also heard a presentation by Barry Zigner,
CEO of Hermes Logistics Technologies. PACTL
deploys the Hermes Cargo Business Management
Solution in its Pudong facility, which enables
it to handle over 600,000 tonnes of freight per
annum, servicing more than 28 airlines.
